Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
This explains what Quireio collects, why, who else sees it, and how to remove it. We collect what we need to run the service and nothing for advertising.
What we collect
- Account: your email, username, and a one-way hash of your password (we cannot read your password). Optionally a name, short bio and website, which are shown on your public pages.
- What you save: links, titles, notes, tags, ratings, reading status, lists, and who you follow. Cached site icons of the links you save.
- Explore: new accounts are listed on our public Explore page by default (the signup form shows a box you can untick, and Settings turns it off at any time). When it is on, your name, bio and the links you save to public lists can appear on Explore and in "People to follow" for two weeks after you save them. Private and unlisted lists never appear there.
- Usage counts: for example how many links you saved this week and how often your public pages are viewed. This is used to apply plan limits.
- Security records: login attempts together with the IP address, kept briefly to block password guessing and abuse.
- Readers who subscribe to an email issue: their email address and when they confirmed. Publishers see only a count, never the addresses.
- Payments: handled by Dodo Payments. Your card details go to them and never touch our servers. We keep your subscription status and the identifiers needed to link it to your account.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and the site loads no third-party scripts, fonts or images.
Cookies
- A session cookie keeps you signed in. It is required, and it disappears when you close the browser.
- A small "qv" cookie holds your username while you are signed in, so public pages can show "Edit on your shelf" on your own page. It is not a password and is cleared when you log out.
We set no tracking cookies.
What is public
Public lists, and the weekly and monthly pages built from them, can be seen by anyone, copied, and indexed by search engines. Unlisted lists are visible to anyone with the link but are asked not to be indexed. Private lists (Paid) are visible only to you. Your followers see a count, and the list of people you follow is private.
How we use it
- To run Quireio: sign you in, store and show your links, build your pages and feeds, apply plan limits, and take payment.
- To email you: password resets, subscription confirmations, and, for people who subscribed, the weekly or monthly issue. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link.
- To keep the service safe: rate limiting and abuse prevention.
We do not sell your data.
Who else handles it
- Dodo Payments processes subscription payments.
- Our hosting provider stores the data, and a mail provider sends our emails.
- When you save a link, our server fetches that web page to read its title and icon. The site you saved sees a request from our server, not from you.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting
- You can export everything (JSON or Markdown) and delete your account from Settings. Deleting removes your lists, links, notes, tags, followers, subscribers and cached images from our live systems straight away. If you have a running subscription, cancel it first.
- We keep backups for a short period (14 days by default), so deleted data can remain in a backup until it expires.
- You can unsubscribe from any email issue with one click, and ask us to correct or delete anything we hold about you.
Security
Passwords are hashed, connections use HTTPS, forms are protected against forgery, and the content you write is sanitised before it is shown. No service is perfectly secure, but we take care with it.
Children
Quireio is not for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you before it applies. See also our Terms of Service.
